Lace up your boots and join fellow liberty lovers for the 1st Annual Granite Freedom Trek, a thrilling celebration of community, freedom, and New Hampshire’s stunning wilderness.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a curious newcomer, this one-day adventure in the Granite State invites you to connect, explore, and take a bold step toward liberty.

This will be a one-day (rain or shine) hiking event. For active Free Staters and libertarian visitors who enjoy the outdoors, join us as we traverse New Hampshire trails in good company during one of the most beautiful times of year.

Event Details

  • Date: September 21, 2025; 8 AM – 6 PM
  • Location: Mt. Cardigan via Manning, Clark, and Holt Trail Loop. Meet at AMC Cardigan Lodge – 774 Shem Street Valley Rd., Alexandria, NH 03222. (Lakes/Pemi Valley Region)

  • Hike Overview: Conquer the scenic trails of Mt. Cardigan (3,155 ft) and Mt. Firescrew (3,040 ft) in a moderate 5-mile loop offering breathtaking 360-degree views of New Hampshire’s rolling hills. Led by expert hiker Derek Proulx.

Schedule

  • 8:00 AM: Meet at Meet at AMC Cardigan Lodge – 774 Shem Street Valley Rd., Alexandria, NH 03222. Enjoy a brief welcome and inspiring talk on the Free State Project’s mission to advance liberty.
  • 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Hike the West Ridge Trail to Mt. Cardigan’s summit, followed by a short traverse to Mt. Firescrew. Capture a group photo at Cardigan’s bald summit with panoramic views.
  • 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Descend to Newfound Lake for a refreshing stop. Relax by the crystal-clear waters, take a dip, or snap photos of the serene landscape.
  • 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Gather at The Last Chair in Plymouth, NH, for a liberty-inspired group outing. Enjoy food, drinks, and lively discussions with fellow freedom enthusiasts.

What to Bring

  • Sturdy hiking boots, water (at least 2 liters), snacks, and weather-appropriate gear (layers for cool summits).
  • A camera or smartphone for the epic group summit photo.
  • Your passion for liberty and community spirit!
